mojotastic: (SV- Allison Mack Hates the Poor!!)
Add MemoryShare This Entry
So I was originally writing up a post about going to see Allison Mack in Apple Cover over the weekend but then I got side tracked by real life stress today and now I'm catching up on the Chloe fan kerfuffle and laughing and shaking my head. So this post will be about that instead with my Apple Cove stuff to come tomorrow. (I KNOW GUYS MARK YOUR CALENDAR. lol no one cares)

As funny as I find most of this (and it's pretty funny) it also bums me out. Especially after my lovely experience with everyone at Apple Cove. We weren't all one type of Chloe fan and we managed to eat Greek food and unsucessfully try to hail cabs and not murder each other. OMG it's not even a good TV show. We're not fighting over Shakespeare here guys. This is a show that can count among it's plotlines FAKE BABY and UNDERGROUND RAILROAD.

The thing that I always really liked about my/our corner of the fandom is how we stuck together. We sort of felt like the underdogs, just like Chloe herself. In my time in SV fandom, I've seen people ship all kinds of Chloe pairings. Chlex. Chlark. Chlionel (Ok that's mostly just me). Chlollie. Chavis. Chlois although that is more a theory than a ship but let's just go with this.

The cool thing about being a Chloe fan always used to be that we were all pretty chill with multi-shipping. Let's not ruin the one good thing we got out of this show. BE COOL BBS.

I think a good rule of thumb is to just not be an asshole. Not that hard.

You don't like such and such pairing or such and such thing? Coolio. No one cares. You love such and such pairing? Awesome! I still don't care but I hope it brings you joy. Let's not be so invested in the opinions of others. I know the "SOMEONE IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET" urge can get so strong sometimes but at those times ask yourself "Am I being a douche?" If the answer is yes (and you will know when it is) then just take a deep breath and realize that contrary to what facebook/twitter/blog culture tells us, we don't ACTUALLY need to post every thought we have. Sometimes censoring is just being polite.

The show is almost over and I can guarantee, because I have been following (if not watching the last two years) this terrible mess so long that not everyone will be happy how it ends. Probably no one will. I'm personally holding out for rocks fall, everyone dies. So instead of making even the fandom for this shitty show shitty can we just BE COOL? Please? I just want to be like that chick in Mean Girls and bake a cake full of rainbows and get the world to sing in perfect harmony.

Dammit Smallville fandom, this is why we can't have nice things.

ETA: Decided to unlock the post because I stand by my "please let's not be douches" public service announcement.

Chloe fan infighting? That makes me a sad panda. I'm so behind on SV fandom these days, I figured it was all wanked out.

I know. I felt the same way. Like I thought nothing in SV fandom would surprise me and then the Chloe fen started bitching and I was like "NOOO NOT US TOO!"

THIS. I don't know Chloe fandom, but YES. I know it's so easy to just say anything online, but that doesn't mean you SHOULD.

And, like, seriously. There's so much we all agree on in fandom, why focus on the disagreements?

I feel like there's this thought now that everything that goes through a person's head not only has merit but should be broadcast to the entire universe regardless of who it might upset. Sometimes people need to just sit back and think about what the consequences of saying stupid shit will be and then decide if it's worth it.

And, like, seriously. There's so much we all agree on in fandom, why focus on the disagreements?

I know! I am SO there with you. There's so much to be excited about in fandom but there are always the people that are endlessly picking fights instead of squeeing. Can we not be horrible for ONE SECOND fandom?

Morgan, I'm so with you, it's not even funny!

Smallville is not worth this type of drama and I'm just glad that Chloe hasn't been killed off to save EDLois or Clark. It's guaranteed that there are Chloe fans who aren't going to like where her character ends up--that's what fanfiction is for :)

Thanks! Contrary to maturity levels on display recently I think that like 99% of Chloe fans are still pretty awesome and reasonable people.

WORD. Smallville isn't even worth watching, it sure as hell isn't worth fighting over. And of course not everyone is going to like the way the series ends, especially for Chloe but that is like the actual purpose of fandom, to rewrite history or focus on the stuff you do like.

PS: Your pretty Chlex icon is pretty!

(Let's try this again with more forethought, yes?)

This is baffling. We're CHLOEFEN. We should be better than this, given all we've endured in this series. We all want the same thing: Recognition for Chloe's BAMFness.

It shouldn't matter whether you like Chlois, whether you ship Clark/Chloe or Oliver/Chloe or Lex/Chloe, because IT'S CHLOE. (For the record, I basically ship Chloe with everyone, so maybe I'm not the best judge.)

Hee! Honestly your first comment was fine too bb, I know you didn't have the background on the ~drama~. :P

Exactly! Shouldn't the recognition that Chloe is a BAMF be enough to unite us? Who cares who she bangs or what name she calls herself?

I know I ship Chloe/Everyone too. Chlark, Chlex, Chlionel, Chavis. I probably wouldn't mind Chlollie if I still watched the show. I'm all for Chloe getting some action. :P

I've lived in the multi shipper lane in many a fandom. I also end up with the rare pairing that never becomes canon. I'm use to being kicked in the teeth.

I think of it like all us Chloefen were a group of children with our noses pressed against the window of a toy store.

Chollie fen were basically the child who got invited into the store to play (they got chollie canon). They know the store will close soon and they know they don't get to keep the toys. Some are afraid and bitter that one of use outside may be allowed to keep a toy and would rather no one get a toy then someone else have one and be happy.

I just think it's a shame. I suppose that before Jimmy, before Oliver, it was easier for Chloefen to be united. I suppose it isn't fair for me to expect that to be easy when Oliver/Chloe shippers have canon and Clark/Chloe shippers don't, I guess I was taken by surprise. I just hate to see O/C and C/C fans unable to get along because we're all Chloe fans when it's all said and done.

I know the "SOMEONE IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET" urge can get so strong sometimes but at those times ask yourself "Am I being a douche?"

I'm usually an easy going person. As a child my sister would get upset and name call, throw things and even break my toys. I however can't seem to hold a grudge for long. Sure at the moment I reciprocate but an hour later I was with puppy eyes asking my sister "Wanna play with me?" (She on the other hand could hold - and has - a grudge for YEARS).

So if I am angry I ask myself: "Would I say this in an hour?" and if I think I'm being too spontaneous I type out stuff then wait an hour to post.

Right? This kind of reasonable thinking just doesn't happen on the internet in general but almost NEVER happens in fandom. Especially LJ, where people like to hide behind the ~my jouranllll~ defense like they are scribbling in a moleskin they shove under their bed and not posting it for all their friends/the internet to see.

I do the same thing. Sometimes I write a post and won't post it and will look at it the next day and go "Thank god I didn't post that, I sound like an asshole."
