I was perfect.

I watched Black Swan Monday night. IT WAS VERY PRETTY AND FREAKY AND AWESOME. So I decided to picspam. Spoiler alert: when hopped up on cold medicine that movie is even more trippy.

BLACK SWAN

That cap of the crazy Black Swan eyes is going to haunt my dreams. So creepy!

Natalie Portman was SO GOOD. I was seriously, seriously impressed. I mean, she's always good but this performance was totally something different. I can't even really describe how much I loved the movie. It just seemed like it should have been so obnoxious with all the symbolism and "ouch anvil!" and yet that's not how it played at all. I mean, obviously the symbolism is there. White Swan/Black Swan is obviously all about the duality of Nina. There's the repressed, quiet Nina and then there's the batshit crazy Nina. And they're practically two different people and the whole movie is the idea of being able to strike a balance but she can never figure out how. There's also a whole interesting Madonna/Whore thing going on in the movie that I'll leave to a more eloquent person to talk about.

Especially since my whole thought process is basically "PRETTY! PRETTY PEOPLE! SKEEVY COACH GUY IS SORT OF HOT. I SHOULD NOT BE THINKING THAT. CARTER BAIZEN? WHY YOU UP IN DA CLUB HOMIE? WHY YOU SO SWEATY IN DA CLUB HOMIE? HER MOM IS SO CREEPY." Obviously, I am one of the great thinkers of my generation. I should really have my own column discussing today's ~cinema~. I will be like Ebert and my rating system will consist of how many extra Ts I put in the word PRETTTTTTY. It will be a great day for film theory.

That cap of the crazy Black Swan eyes is going to haunt my dreams. So creepy!

It also makes her resemble some sort of anime character.

When I thought this movie was primarily a horror movie, I desperately wanted to see it. But if it's mainly Natalie Portman going nuts because of wanting to land a part in a ballet--which I had hoped would only be a small portion of it, since I despise ballet--I guess it's just not for me.

So it's just insanity, and not possession?

Haha! It does! But like an anime character that would eat you.

So it's just insanity, and not possession?

Yea it's more psychological I'd say than outright horror. There are definitely a lot of horror aspects to the story and there were a bunch of times I was like "HO SHIZZZZZ" but I don't think I'd peg it as being more of a horror movie. I'd still suggest it even if you don't like ballet but honestly there is a bunch of ballet in it so it might not be for you.

Still her crazy black swan eyes were seriously freaky.

Glad you loved it too! I may totally snag that icon that you're using, if it's OK!

It was a totally great movie. I went into it mostly interested to see what it was about after all the hype and came out super impressed with the movie. And of course you can snag the icon! I'm glad you like it! :)

I loved so much about what this movie chose to be, but the insanulous crazy eyes Natalie Portman popped when she became the black swan KILLED me. GIRL, THERE WERE PRACTICALLY HYPNOTIC SWIRLS UP IN THERE! And then I saw some commercial for the movie a few days later which was all Nina spinning around and zooming in on her crazy eyes while they had some hilariously unfitting upbeat song in the background. LIKE WHAT?

SKEEVY COACH GUY IS SORT OF HOT
I am so glad that I wasn't the only one thinking that. Vincent Cassel, how'd you get so fine in this? When he was all, seduuuuuccceeeee me, I kept thinking, "Seriously, Nina. GET ON THAT."

I know! I loved the movie so much but the highlight had to be Natalie Portman's serious case of CRAZY EYES. There were totally hypnotic swirls and like clowns popping out of jack in the boxes and some seriously crazy shit in there.

And then I saw some commercial for the movie a few days later which was all Nina spinning around and zooming in on her crazy eyes while they had some hilariously unfitting upbeat song in the background.

HAHAHA! Oh lordy. Now I really want to look up that commercial. It reminds me of when they recut horror movies into heartwarming stories on youtube only this was actually a real commercial for the movie. Way to miss the point marketing people.

I am so glad that I wasn't the only one thinking that. Vincent Cassel, how'd you get so fine in this? When he was all, seduuuuuccceeeee me, I kept thinking, "Seriously, Nina. GET ON THAT."

At first I was like "Man this guy is skeevy. Sort of hot though. But mostly skeevy" and literally by the end of the movie I was like "HELLO SAILOR PLEASE TEACH ME ABOUT ~BALLET~". Seriously, Nina should have just put her crazy aside on the shelf for five minutes and tapped that.

Seriously, Nina should have just put her crazy aside on the shelf for five minutes and tapped that.
It was like DAMN GIRL, IF YOU HADN'T STABBED YOURSELF, YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN SOME OF THAT.

BWAHAHA! I'm surprised she didn't pop up from the half-dead like "I think I have a few more minutes before I die, let's DO THIS THING."

I literally could not stop talking about this movie for a day and a half. I agree, the symbolism was present, but in a subtle way that enriched both story lines for the viewer.

It was Brilliant. And thrilling! Almost in a horror movie, this chick is sipping the crazy juice, sort of way...except equally tasteful and tragic. Natalie Portman better win the Oscar, it's truly way overdue.

I know! I was seriously thinking about the movie for days after it ended. I'm planning on rewatching probably in the next few days. It was so good. You'd think that a movie about Swan Lake and duality would be like hitting you over the head with the symbolism but I thought it was done really nicely.

It was so creepy in parts I was like "AHHH WHAT IS HAPPENING STOP STARING AT HER REFLECTION!" I seriously made a weird noise when the reflection started scratching her shoulder. AHHH. Natalie Portman was perfection though. She would totally deserve the Oscar.

(PS: Love your icon!)
